When Ferdinand Magellan arrived in Cebu in 1521, his goal was to convert local leaders to Christianity and establish Spanish rule. While some complied, Lapu-Lapu, the chief of Mactan, refused to submit. On April 27, Magellan and his men waded through the shallow waters of Mactan, only to meet fierce resistance from Lapu-Lapu's warriors armed with spears and kampilan swords. The clash resulted in a historic victory for the islanders and the death of Magellan-cementing Lapu-Lapu's legacy as the first Filipino hero to resist foreign colonization.

From what I saw, there were about 50 stalls set up! There were various food options, including Filipino cuisine, Korean restaurants from Cebu, and Japanese food, so even if you have specific tastes, you're sure to find something you like!

With so many stalls, it's a great idea to buy one dish from each stall and try a variety of foods!

The Bluewater Maribago Beach Resort, a resort in Cebu, also had a stall selling high-quality pastries, including cookies. I highly recommend their chocolate chip cookies as they are of excellent quality!

One of the performers is our very own JHS Euphoria Dance Troupe and Trachelium, who wowed the audience with their moves and music. It was truly a night of fun, talent, and unity under the stars!

- National Agency Night was celebrated in observance with the 504th Anniversary of the Victory at Mactan. The City of Lapu-Lapu hosted this grand celebration with the theme: "Kadaugan sa Mactan: Food, Fashion, and Festivities." This special event was allocated to all uniformed personnel of the beloved city, held at the Liberty Shrine. The event was to recognize the invaluable contributions and steadfast service of our fellow men in uniform from Lapu-Lapu City Police Office (LLCPO), Philippine Army (PA), Philippine Navy (PN), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), Philippine Air Force (PAF), and Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP).

-The Kadaugan sa Mactan reenactment 2025 is scheduled to take place on April 27, 2025, at the Mactan Liberty Shrine.

Kadaugan sa Mactan, translated to Victory in Mactan, is held in Lapu-Lapu City,

Cebu, Philippines every April 27. It is a yearly re-enactment of the Battle of Mactan of 1521, an encounter where local chieftain Lapu-Lapu defeated the Spanish forces and killed Portuguese colonizer Ferdinand Magellan.

The result of the battle was the disastrous outcome of Magellan’s expedition and it halted the colonization of the Philippine archipelago by over forty years. Contemporary historians contextualized the battle as a significant event in the history of globalization.
